Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and East Orange Police Chief William Robinson have announced that authorities are investigating a shooting homicide in the 200 block of Dodd Street.
Authorities said at approximately 9:40 p.m., East Orange police officers were flagged down by citizens reporting that a person had been shot.
The officers located an unresponsive male on a lawn at this location.
The male was rushed to University Hospital in Newark, NJ, where he was pronounced dead at 10:08 p.m. the victim has been identified as Sharod T. Jefferson, age 18 of East Orange, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.
This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the East Orange Police Department. Shortly before 11:30 in the 20's block of Carlton Street, EMS transported a person suffering from an apparent gunshot wound at that location.
Police are investigating the motives for both shootings.
