Linden – According to a statement released by officials, at approximately 8:50 p.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to the 2800 block of N. Stiles Streer on reports of a serious auto-pedestrian crash.
Preliminary reports indicate that the vehicle, a 2000 Dodge Durango, was traveling south on N. Stiles St when it struck the victim as she crossed the street according to officials.
The victim, identified as a 72-year-old woman from Winfield Park, was treated on scene by Linden Fire Department personnel and paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Hospital in Rahway.
Officials say she was transported to Newark University Hospital with serious injuries and remains there in critical condition.
The driver of the vehicle, a 33-year-old Linden man, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. He was not injured in the crash police said.
