Police Officials in Newark are reporting the arrest of Mr. Shaheed Williams, 34, of Newark, who they said was wanted for shooting at a victim on October 25th in the city.
Although the charges lodged against Mr. Williams are mere accusations, police said at approximately 1:50 a.m., officers responded to reports of a suspicious person with a firearm at a carwash located at 489 McCarter Highway.
According to police accounts, the victim reported that he was at the carwash when a scuffle initiated with a suspect who attempted to steal his iPad from inside his car.
During the confrontation, a second suspect fired a handgun, causing the victim to release the iPad then the suspects fled the area.
Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit developed sufficient evidence to obtain warrants for two identified suspects, a 16-year-male, who officers arrested on October 27th, and Mr. Shaheed Williams, who cops arrested yesterday (Thursday).
Authorities said Williams and the juvenile are each charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Robbery, and Conspiracy.
Police additionally charged the juvenile with Aggravated Assault and Williams with Criminal Attempt.
Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
