Second Suspect Arrested for Newark Christmas Eve Shooting

Police in Newark arrested a second suspect wanted for a shooting that occurred on Sunday, December 24th in the city.

Police officials said at approximately 9 p.m., detectives on patrol in the area of Central Avenue and 7th Street heard gunshots coming from the Exxon Service Station at 481 Central Avenue.

Officials said detectives observed a silver 4-door Toyota Camry exit the gas station driving erratically when police attempted to make a motor vehicle stop.

The Toyota Camry driven by the suspect continued to elude police, speeding on South 7th Street police said.

Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said as part of their investigation; detectives determined that a second vehicle that also fled the gas station was also involved in the shooting incident.

Police officials secured a warrant for the arrest of Mr. Eury F. Silverio-Torres as well as a warrant for the arrest of Mr. Reinaldo Gomez-Cruz, each on charges of Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

Police arrested Silverio-Torres on January 2nd, 2018 without incident and apprehended Gomez-Cruz yesterday -Friday-.

These charges lodged against both suspects are merely accusations. They are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
