A woman was injured in a shooting late Thursday night in Newark’s West Ward, marking the third person struck by gunfire in the city overnight.
Police responded to reports of shots fired in the 300 block of South 7th Street around 11 p.m.
When officers arrived, they discovered a female victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
She was quickly transported to University Hospital, where her injuries were not reported as life-threatening.
Authorities secured the area, searching for additional victims and possible suspects, but no further injuries were reported.
Police have not announced any arrests in connection with the shooting.
This latest incident adds to a particularly violent night in Newark, with multiple shootings concentrated in the West Ward.
As of Friday morning, no arrests have been reported in any of the overnight shootings, and authorities continue to investigate the circumstances behind the gun violence.
