Newark Public Safety officials are reporting the arrest of Mr. Kanif R. Sharif, 23, of Newark, during the execution of a search warrant that resulted in the recovery of an assault weapon and handgun today.
Officials said Sharif was arrested during the execution of a search warrant today at a residence in the 200 block of Garside Street.
He resisted arrest and also assaulted two officers at the scene according to police.
Police recovered a Mac-10 style 9 mm assault weapon, a .380 Ruger handgun, and approximately $4,200.00 in cash from the residence.
Sharif faces a charge of contempt along with pending federal weapon possession charges as well as aggravated assault on a police officer.

These charges are merely accusations.
This suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
