Detouring weather conditions and speed appear to have played a role in the Monday night crash that critically injured Cara McCollum, a South Jersey TV news anchor, and crowned Miss New Jersey 2013.
Police were called to the northbound side of State Highway 55 of Route 55 in Salem County at approximately 6:53 p.m. for a report of a single-vehicle crash.
According to police, 24-year-old McCollum was driving a 2014 Ford Mustang convertible northbound on State Highway 55, when she apparently lost control of her car.
Her vehicle spun of the road striking a tree at mile marker 38.4. McCollum's vehicle continued and struck two other trees, ultimately ending at the bottom of an embankment.
McCollum, who was not wearing her seatbelt, was transported to Cooper Hospital in Camden with critical injuries.
