Rutherford Man Wanted for Theft of Cell Phone Tower Batteries in Newark Arrested

A Rutherford man wanted by Newark police for the theft of cell phone tower batteries was arrested this afternoon by Essex County sheriff’s detectives.

​According to authorities, Christopher Kennedy, 31, of Rutherford, was wanted for the thefts which occurred in the city’s Ironbound section that occurred on July 31st.

​On that date, a man, utilizing a green Ford Expedition, stole 16 batteries from a cellphone tower. Newark police later developed leads that identified the suspect as Kennedy and a warrant for his arrest for the theft of movable property was issued.

​Kennedy arrived at Veterans Courthouse earlier today and inquired if our department had any holds on him,” Sheriff Armando Fontoura said. A criminal background check on the suspect revealed that Newark, as well as West Milford and North Arlington, had issued warrants for his arrest.

​Kennedy was lodged at the Essex County jail where he awaits a bail hearing on his charges.
