NJ State Police officials are looking into the cause of a crash that killed a child Thursday night.
Officials said the crash occurred at 7:45 p.m. on I-80 eastbound MP 28.5 in Roxbury Twp.
According to State Police, a preliminary investigation revealed that an unknown vehicle struck a Chevy Equinox. The Equinox then hit a Honda HRV.
Officials say a Nissan Altima then struck the HRV and then a Honda Passport hit the Equinox.
Police said a passenger in the HRV, Lorenzo Vandine, 6, of Budd Lake, sustained fatal injuries.
“In total, there were five minor injuries and one moderate injury. The unknown vehicle left the scene and has not been identified,” police said.
I-80 eastbound was closed for approximately 2 hours resulting in major traffic congestion.
This crash is still under investigation.
