A 44-year-old Roselle Park man is accused of punching and breaking another motorist car's window during an alleged road rage incident on Tuesday, police said today.
Officers were dispatched to West Colfax Avenue near Elm Street Tuesday at approximately 5:33 p.m., for a report of a road rage incident.
Upon arrival, officers met with a 28-year-old female (driver) and 29-year-old female (passenger) from Roselle Park.
Both advised that they had been involved in a road rage incident on West Webster near Faitoute Avenue a few minutes prior to officers arrival.
The driver of the 1999 Honda, still covered in broken glass with small cuts on her arms and chest, stated that they were traveling west on West Webster near Faitoute Avenue when a black SUV pulled alongside of them.
A male subject then exited the vehicle and began to yell about how he was cut off prior to the intersection. The suspect then walked up to the Honda’s driver’s side door and punched the window, causing it to break authorities said.
The male driver - described to be a approximately 6 feet tall, white male who was wearing a black hat and blue t-shirt with a yellow circle tattoo on his right arm , entered the black SUV and left the scene. The victim, however was able to document the license plate number of the suspect's vehicle.
Two independent witness’s in the area also observed the incident and corroborated the woman’s account of the incident authorities said.
Broken glass was also observed on the ground at the intersection where the incident was said to have occurred.
A further investigation led to the identification of Sergio Oliveira, 44, of Roselle Park according to police.
Oliveira was located and arrested Wednesday (April 13) at approximately 3:50 p.m., police said.
He was charged with simple assault and criminal mischief regarding to the road rage incident. He was issued a summons and released on his own recognizance with a future court date.
The driver of the Honda was transported to the hospital for treatment.
