Roselle Man Shot in Attempted Robbery in Linden

Linden

A 24-year-old Roselle man told officers that he was shot during an attempted robbery after leaving a fast food restaurant with two friends late Monday evening.

Officers responded to University Hospital in Newark early Tuesday morning after receiving a call from the Rutgers University Police Department that a man was being treated for a gunshot wound.

The man told officers that when he and his two friends walked to the corner of Chandler and Monmouth Avenue, they were approached by two men, one of whom brandished a handgun, and demanded their property.

The victim told officers that he ran from the suspects and heard two or three gunshots. As he ran to the residence of an acquaintance, he realized that he had been shot in the knee. He remained in the rear yard of the residence after failing to arouse anyone in the house.

After several hours, he attempted to walk home to Roselle where he flagged down two friends who drove him to the hospital.

According to police, the victim's wound is considered non-life threatening and he is expected to be released from the hospital.

The incident is under investigation by the Police Department’s Detective Bureau.
