Rockaway Man Charged with Attempted Kidnapping, Luring, Sexual Assault of Two Juveniles

Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and Acting Chief/Officer in Command Martin McParland, Jr. of the Rockaway Township Police Department announce the arrest of a Rockaway man for attempted kidnapping and sexual assault involving two separate victims.

Kyriakos Serghides, 34, of Rockaway, has been charged with one count of attempted kidnapping, a crime of the second degree; one count of luring, a crime of the second degree; one count of sexual assault, a crime of the second degree; one count of terroristic threats, a crime of the third degree; one count of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, a crime of the fourth degree; and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, crimes of the third degree.

The alleged victims in this matter are two five year old males, who reported on two separate dates they were approached by the defendant.

The first victim alleged that on August 28, 2015, while using the restroom at the Rockaway Mall, the defendant contacted the victim’s intimate parts. The second victim alleged that on September 10, 2015, while at the Target in Rockaway Township, the defendant approached him and told him to go with the defendant or the defendant would cut him.

On September 11, 2015, the Honorable William J. McGovern, III, J.S.C., set two (2) separate bails for the defendant - $200,000 with no ten percent cash option for each separate incident. Conditions of that bail include: no contact with the victims; no contact with children under the age of 18.
