Robbers Posing as Water Department Employee Enter Trenton Home, Steal Cash and Jewelry

Trenton New Jersey

Trenton police are warning residents about scam artists who they say are posing as water utility workers in order to gain entry into homes to steal resident's belongings.

On April 28,  a resident on the 500 block of Hudson Street was the victim of this new diversion theft.

At approximately 3 p.m., a man knocked on the victim's door and identified himself as being from the water department. The suspect then insisted on looking at the victim's water meter.

The victim remained with the suspect the basement of the residence for approximately fifteen minutes. The suspect then received a call on his cell phone and left after advising the victim that she needed to boil her water because it may be contaminated.

A short while after the suspect left, the victim discovered several items moved in her second floor and that she was missing a significant amount of currency and jewelry.

The Trenton Police Department is urging citizens to be vigilant of any strangers asking or demanding entry into their homes.

Ask for identification even if the individual is wearing a uniform or appears to be official.

If you have any suspicion regarding the individual's identity or purpose, contact the police immediately.
