A 30-year-old Riverton man has been convicted for the fatal stabbing of another man during a confrontation at the Rodeway Inn on Route 73 in Mount Laurel in the spring of 2023.After five hours of deliberation, a Burlington County jury found Taylor Perkins guilty of Manslaughter, Eluding, multiple theft charges,and weapons offenses, according to a statement released by the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.
Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw said the verdict was delivered last week in Superior Court.
The stabbing incident occurred on April 20, 2023, when police responded to reports of a fight between two men at the Rodeway Inn.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of 36-year-old Michael Jefferies, of Mount Laurel, outside a second-floor room near a stairwell.
An autopsy revealed that Jefferies had died from multiple stab wounds.
Following the attack, Perkins fled the scene on foot, eventually stealing an SUV from a nearby BMW dealership. After abandoning the vehicle in Evesham, he took a truck from an Xfinity worker before being apprehended at a residence in Camden.
Perkins is scheduled for sentencing on October 18 before the Hon. Richard J. Nocella.
According to officials, Perkins faces multiple charges stemming from the fatal stabbing and subsequent events.
