Ring to Offer Free Video Security Cameras, Devices to Weequahic and Forest Hill Residents

Newark

Newark officials announced that through a partnership with Ring, the leader in neighborhood security, Weequahic and Forest Hill residents will be offered free video doorbells and outdoor security cameras.

According to officials, Ring will donate video doorbells and outdoor security cameras to nearly 600 residents who volunteered to participate in the offer by attending community meetings hosted by the Newark Police Division with Ring representatives in both communities. In addition to the security devices, Ring will install the devices free of charge with installations expected to be completed by early June.

“Deploying Ring Video Doorbells and outdoor security cameras is another step forward in our mission of using state-of-the-art technology to make the residents of Newark safer,” Mayor Baraka said. “The Ring initiative has the potential to significantly increase the effectiveness of block watch programs by multiplying the number of eyes monitoring what’s going on in our neighborhoods.”

“The donation of the Ring devices is a step in the right direction by putting tools in the hands of more residents who can partner with us in safeguarding their neighborhoods,” Director Ambrose said.

“From the privacy of their own homes and through their own cell phones, our neighbors can view and report suspicious or criminal activities. I’m grateful that Ring chose to partner with us to further empower our community members with these free home security devices.”
