In a concerning development, Mr. Yiduo Ding, a 39-year-old rideshare driver from Queens, New York, has been arrested and charged with second-degree sexual assault.
Union Township Police officials told RLS Media that the arrest follows a joint investigation by the Union Police Department and the Special Victim’s Unit of the Union County Prosecutor’s Office.
Ding is currently detained in New York City and is awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
The incident in question occurred in the early hours of December 9th at the Vermella complex on Morris Ave in Union, New Jersey.
The Union Police Department was alerted to the sexual assault after the victim, who had contracted Ding for a ride from New York City to the Vermella complex, reported the incident.
This arrest highlights the growing nation-wide concerns regarding safety in rideshare services and the measures being taken by law enforcement to address these issues.
