Retired Edison Officer Charged with Theft

Edison

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Thomas J. Bryan of the Edison Police Department announced that a retired Edison police captain was charged today with illegally using sick leave to collect more than $43,000 from the township while working another job.

Natale A. Fresco, 55, of Edison was charged with a third degree count of theft after an investigation showed that he was employed as security director at the Menlo Park Mall between July 15, 2015 and September 30, 2015 and collected sick pay from the township during that time.

The investigation by Detective Nicholas Chiorello of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that Fresco, known as “Andy,” collected more than $43,000 before retiring on October 1, 2015.

“This office consistently investigates and prosecutes theft and corruption cases,” Prosecutor Carey said. “We will remain diligent in our efforts to target such behavior and we will seek restitution for the taxpayers wherever possible.”

The investigation is active and is continuing.
