Police in Newark canvassed a Central Ward neighborhood for two suspects who reportedly broke into a home then punched a resident in the face early Saturday morning.
According to police, units were dispatched to a home in the 200 block of Rose Street to investigate a burglary in progress at around 4:20 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers met with a resident who told them that two suspects, armed with a gun, unlawfully entered their apartment.
According to the resident, when another person in the house attempted to stop the suspects, one of the men produced a weapon.
The suspect then punched the resident in the face before fleeing the scene.
The victim suffered minor injuries during the attack.
Police did not locate the suspects after searching the neighborhood.
A crime scene unit was called in to assist with the investigation.
