School administrators and security places an elementary school on lockdown this afternoon after they received reports of a student with a gun inside the building.
According to police, it happened at around 3:30 p.m. at the Elliot Street School on Summer Avenue where security reportedly observed what they believe was a weapon on the juvenile.
Newark Emergency Services Unit, Newark Public Schools Security, and Newark PD Detectives all arrived and were told that the accused ran from the building shortly before the lockdown.
Officers tracked the suspect to his home several blocks away and began an investigation where they led him out of the home without handcuffs on.
It is not clear if officers ever located the gun.
The lockdown was lifted in under a half-hour.
