Reported Carjacking Under Investigation in Newark

Authorities in Newark are investigating reports of a carjacking that happened in the city's downtown early this morning.

Police responded to the area of McCarter Highway at Bridge Street on reports of a victim who wanted to report a carjacking would be at that location.

Units arrived to find the male victim who reported to them that a black male suspect approached him at gunpoint in the area of Broad Street and Market Street at around 5 a.m., taking his white 2007 Ford F-150.

The victim told officers that he was allegedly given a ride by an unidentified person to the McCarter Highway location shortly before he dialed 911.

Officers on the scene investigating the incident were able to research the victim's vehicle registration that came back expired and his drivers license was reportedly suspended in New Jersey.

There were no physical injuries reported.
