An attempted abduction at an Elizabeth church has one person in custody this evening.
According to preliminary reports, police responded to reports of an abduction at an unidentified church located on 1st Street at around 2:30 p.m.
Arriving units located a male suspect near the church who witnesses said attempted to take an infant from the building a short time before officers arrived.
When officers attempted to place the suspect under arrest, the man began to resist and fight officers.
Police quickly apprehended the man who was later identified as homeless.
The child was not injured.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
