Firefighters and The America Red Cross Disaster Action Team responded to an overnight fire that damaged a building in Union City on Monday night.
According to preliminary reports, fire broke out at 500 19th Street at approximately 9:30 where firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from a multi-family apartment building at that location.
Crews were able to locate the seat of the fire that was in inside the walls of the building according to preliminary reports. A search of the building for trapped and/or injured occupants came back negative. Officials say the fire was brought under control in under an hour.
According to the American Red Cross, ten families with a total of 27 people required emergency assistance for temporary lodging, food and clothing. The public is requested to make donations.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
