Rainy Start to Tuesday in Newark as Thanksgiving Travel Picks Up

Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

My friends and family in Newark and the North Jersey region are starting off dry at 4:30 a.m. but slightly warmer this Tuesday morning compared to Monday.

However, the National Weather Service (NWS) predicts rain during a busy holiday travel week.

The rain, arriving from the west, is forecast to reach the area by sunrise. Commuters waiting at bus stops or walking to school or work are advised to keep umbrellas handy as showers are expected to linger through the morning before clearing up by midday.

The afternoon is anticipated to be dry, providing some reprieve for travelers.

The NWS predicts rain mainly before 11 a.m., with a high near 59 degrees. Winds will shift from southeast at 5 to 11 mph to west in the afternoon.

New precipitation amounts of a tenth to a quarter of an inch are possible.

Tonight, skies will see increasing cloud cover, with lows dipping to around 36 degrees.

As the Thanksgiving rush continues, residents are urged to drive safely and prepare for slick conditions during the morning commute.
