Newark and the broader North Jersey area are waking up to a damp Tuesday morning, with the early rain beginning to taper off.NinosHowever, the day promises to remain cloudy and humid, with lingering patches of fog adding to the dreariness.

As of 4:30 a.m., temperatures have settled at a mild 71 degrees.

The National Weather Service forecasts a day with cloudy skies and occasional sunshine, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms developing after 2 p.m.

Today's high is expected to reach near 86 degrees, with a light southeast wind shifting to the west in the afternoon.

Tonight, NWS meteorologists say the chance of precipitation increases, with showers and potentially a thunderstorm likely after 2 a.m. The overnight low will hover around 73 degrees, maintaining the muggy conditions.

Despite the unsettled weather, residents are encouraged to make the most of the day.
