Police in Rahway are alerting residents of potential scam artist who are making telephone calls informing them of family emergencies.
According to police officials scammers may pose as relatives or friends, calling or sending messages to urge you to wire money immediately.
Officials said they’ll say that they need cash to help with an emergency — like getting out of jail, paying a hospital bill, or needing to leave a foreign country.
Other scams include telling you that your relative caused damage to their car, and request money for the damage.
Their goal is to trick you into sending money before you realize it’s a scam police officials said.
