A raging four-alarm fire ripped through a commercial establishment then spread to some neighboring homes in Irvington early this morning.
Heavy fire ripped through a bar located in the 100 block of Florence Avenue at around 1:30 a.m. and quickly spread to at least two homes causing severe damage.
Township firefighters are being assisted by Millburn, Maplewood, Belleville, Newark, and East Orange as they battle heavy flames and smoke coming from the bar.
There are several apartments and other small businesses next to the bar that is being damaged by the fire.
Firefighters have declared this a 4-alarm fire and have not gained control as of 2:40 a.m.
UPDATE: 3:32 a.m. A firefighter is being treated for minor injuries at this time. The fire still has not been brought under control.
UPDATE 3:41 a.m. We have a confirmed the name of the bar as HEADQUARTERS BAR at 147 Florence.
UPDATE 3:49 a.m. A second firefighter has suffered some minor injuries at this time. God bless our firefighters and keep them safe.
UPDATE 4:21 a.m. The fire is under control with about 10 residents displaced.
