A police pursuit of a vehicle that was occupied by suspects wanted for a gas station robbery in Newark came to a crashing end with several vehicles damaged and an elementary school placed on lockdown this afternoon.
The incident unfolded at around noon near a car wash on 3rd Street where police attempted to pull the driver of a van over who was possibly wanted for robbery.
According to reports, the driver of the vehicle sped away and led police on a short pursuit that ended in front of FirstAvenue School with the suspect's vehicle crashing into several cars.
Teachers and administrators rushed students to safety after children reportedly witnessed a portion of the crash and apprehension during their outside recess period.
Police were able to arrest the suspect without further incident.
There were no injuries reported.
