Prosecutor: 33-Year-Old Jersey City Man Killed by Gunfire was Targeted

The 33-year-old man killed by gunfire yesterday was targeted, according to Jersey Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.

Police responded to the area of Neptune Avenue and Lld Bergen Road for a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers found Markice Hatten, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Hatten was transported to Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health, where he was pronounced dead at 12:15 p.m.

According to city officials, this was not time that Hatten was targeted. In April, Hatten was the victim of a stabbing on Montgomery Street.

Last month, he was also the intended target of a shooting on New Heckman Drive.

The Prosecutor's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
