A prisoner who was brought to a Newark hospital by police for a medical condition attempted to escape on Saturday.
Officials said at approximately 2:40 p.m., prisoner Mr. Derrick Russell was allowed to use the restroom in the emergency department of University Hospital when he tried to exit through the ceiling.
Police became suspicious of the length of time Russell stayed in the bathroom, conducted a check and discovered the attempted break out.
Officials say Russell was taken into custody without further incident.
