Political Consultant for Former Newark Mayors Gets a Year of Home Supervision After Pleading Guilty to Tax Evasion

A 60-year-old political consultant who worked with two Newark former mayors was sentenced to a year of home supervision after pleading guilty to tax evasion charges.

According to officials, between 2008-09, Oscar James Senior admitted under reporting his income ultimately stealing approximately $113,000 in taxes.

U.S. District Judge Kevin McNulty explain could not order James to pay a fine because he currently has no source of income and he will not face prison time because he provided information that was helpful to the investigation. In addition, the judge added that he believes James was remorseful and was unlikely to commit another financial crime. 

Officials confirmed as a result of circumstances James was ordered to serve a year of home supervision.
