Although the woman remains unidentified, authorities believe the woman found died after falling into the Hudson River.
According to authorities, the woman’s body was discovered by two people walking near Ross Dock Picnic Area (near the George Washington Bridge) sometime around 7 p.m. Monday.
Investigation has revealed that the victim’s death is consistent with an elevated fall such as a bridge or overpass into the Hudson River.
However, investigators are trying to determine what led to the fall and continue to work on the woman’s identity.
The victim was described as a black woman with very short black hair and brown eyes, about 5-foot-five and weighing between 200 and 225 pounds. She was wearing a dark gray hooded sweat shirt and a newer blue colored Knicks T-shirt underneath, authorities said.
Authorities said the woman could have been missing for a longer period than the 48 hours that had been estimated to elapse between her death and when she was discovered.
