Police Swiftly Apprehend Early Morning Stabbing Suspect in Newark's Ironbound Section

A violent stabbing that took place in Newark's East Ward had police chase down and apprehend a suspect early this morning.

Police on patrol in the area came across a commotion that involved several people people at the intersection of Jackson Street at Lafayette Street at around 5:46 a.m.

Officer cautiously proceeded in when they noticed a male suspect pull out an object and began to strike another male, causing injury at that location.

As the suspect began to flee the scene, officers called for assistance then engaged in a foot pursuit where arriving units setup a perimeter.

The suspect was captured at around 5:48 a.m. and a weapon was recovered at the scene.

A male victim was transported to University Hospital suffering serious injuries.

One other victim suffered minor injuries and reportedly refused medical attention.
