Police Seek Public's Assistance in Locating Individuals Wanted for Questioning in Connection with Burglary

Newark's law enforcement authorities are reaching out to the public, seeking their cooperation in locating two individuals wanted for questioning in connection with a recent burglary that transpired between December 10, 2023, and December 12, 2023.AdThe suspects have been identified as Mr. Afrika Islam, 27, of Newark, and Ms. Alaa Ibeh-Covington, 24, of Montclair.

The incident in question unfolded within the premises of Joseph P. Bradley Court, an apartment complex managed by the Newark Housing Authority and situated in the 80 block of N. Munn Avenue.

Newark Police responded to a call regarding the incident, which transpired over the course of those two days.

According to the victim's report to law enforcement, a dispute arose between her and Ibeh-Covington during a telephone conversation while she was inside her Bradley Court apartment.

Allegedly, Ibeh-Covington made threats to visit the victim's apartment and engage in a physical altercation.

Following this argument, the victim departed her apartment at approximately 8 p.m. on December 10, 2023, only to return around 4 a.m. on December 12, 2023, to discover significant damage to her belongings.AdThe damaged items included a torn couch, two televisions with damaged screens, a damaged air conditioner, and a shattered mirror.

Furthermore, the victim realized that her MacBook computer and PlayStation 5 were missing from the premises. It is important to note that Islam and Ibeh-Covington are known to be friends.

In their efforts to locate and question these individuals regarding the incident, Newark Police Director Fragé is urging anyone with information about the whereabouts of Afrika Islam and Alaa Ibeh-Covington to contact the Police Division's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS.

The cooperation of the public is instrumental in aiding law enforcement agencies in their pursuit of justice and resolving cases such as this burglary.
