Police Seek Hit-and Run Driver Who Struck Toms River Officer

Authorities are searching for the driver of a Honda Civic or Honda Accord that struck a township police officer in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday at the DMV.

Police responded to the DMV - located on the 1800 block of Hooper Avenue - for a crash just before 1 p.m. today.

The suspect, was only described as a Hispanic man in his late-20s or early-30s, was last seen driving a black Honda Civic with Pennsylvania license plate down Hooper Avenue towards Brick. Police are also looking for a woman in her late-40s to early-50s who was wearing glasses was with the alleged wanted driver.

The officer investigating a fraudulent document claim at the DMV tried to talk to the suspect inside his car but the suspect put the car in reverse and dragged the officer.

The officer's injuries are not reported to be life threatening.
