Newark

A man caught on surveillance tape burglarizing a popular Newark restaurant has police investigating.

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a suspect in regards to a burglary that occurred on Wednesday.

According to Director Ambrose, at approximately 5 a.m., police responded to a burglary alarm at **The Ambassador Fish & Chicken**, that's located at 362 South Orange Avenue.

Authorities said a male suspect had entered the business and stole cash and several pieces of fried chicken from inside the establishment.

When the suspect entered the restaurant, by climbing down through a hole in the 2nd-floor apartment above, Director Ambrose said he was wearing a puffy black coat with a baseball-type cap featuring the word “Money” in multiple colors.

Once inside, it appears that the suspect had removed the black puffy jacket and baseball cap and replaced it with a blue, skully-type hat with a pom-pom on top that covered his mouth and chin. Inside, he was also wearing a thin jacket and dark gloves with white tips Director Ambrose said.

Director Ambrose urges anyone with information about this suspect to call the Department's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477) or 1-877-NWK-GUNS (1-877-695-4867).
