Authorities are actively searching for a suspect involved in a shooting that damaged a car in Newark’s Central Ward on Thursday evening.
The incident occurred just before 5 p.m. near the intersection of West Kinney Street and Halsey Street.
According to police, a ShotSpotter device alerted officers to approximately 11 gunshots in the area.When units arrived, they found shell casings near 391 Halsey Street and discovered a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire.
There was no one inside the car at the time.
The suspect fled the scene and remains at large. No motive for the shooting has been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.
