A large scale police search for a suspect/s wanted for a shooting in the city's West Ward had cops focus in on a building located in a residential neighborhood late last night.
Police surrounded a building in the 200 block of Brookdale Avenue at around 10:30 p.m. after they received reports of shots fired in the area.
Units arriving on the scene believed that one or more suspects had barricaded themselves inside a building, prompted them to setup a perimeter on the street with help from Newark Emergency Services Unit and a police search helicopter flying above.
After a thorough search of the building and the neighborhood, the suspects were able to escape capture.
Police continued to search the area for the men through the night but there were no immediate reports of arrests made.
