Newark Public officials request the public’s help in identifying a male in connection with a robbery that occurred on Tuesday, October 4.
According to officials, at approximately 3:20 p.m., Police responded to University Avenue and Market Street on a robbery call.
Officials say, a man with special needs was approached by a male suspect who asked for the time before snatching the victim’s cell phone after the victim retrieved it from his pocket.
The suspect then demanded cash for the return of the cell phone.
The victim gave the suspect his wallet containing cash and a bank card.
The suspect then showed the victim what appeared to be the handle of a handgun and led him to a nearby ATM to retrieve more money.
When the victim could not access his account, the suspect left, returning the victim’s phone and wallet to him.
Detectives investigating this incident are seeking the public’s help in quickly identifying this suspect.
