Police officers in Newark were unsuccessful in their foot pursuit of a suspect wanted for a violent attack of a female inside a business on Wednesday evening.
According to preliminary reports, the robbery/ assault occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. at the Family Dollar Store located at 62 Broadway where police responded to reports of a commercial robbery with an injured person at that location.
Units arrived at the scene and began a foot pursuit of a man who fit the description of a suspect wanted for the crime.
The suspect led multiple police officers on a chase through the 200 block of Mount Pleasant Avenue where officers lost him after the suspect jumped several fences in the community and was last seen in the vicinity of McCarter Highway and 4th Avenue according to reports.
EMS responded to the Family Dollar Store to treat the victim's non-life threatening injuries according to police.
Police are also attempting to determine if the suspect is also wanted for a strong-armed robbery that occurred moments after the robbery where a male suspect fitting the description of the store robbery suspect stole an unidentified person's cell phone at wallet at strong arm according to reports.
There were no arrests reported.
