Police Release Images of Suspect who Carjacked Vehicle Left Running with Child Inside; 10-Year-Old Dropped Off at School

Newark Police officials seek the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted in connection with a carjacking that occurred on yesterday Wednesday morning.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, at approximately 9:10 a.m., a man parked his black 2012 BMW 428-I at the Exxon Gas Station located at 397 Springfield Avenue and exited the car, leaving it running, but taking the key inside the gas station’s mini-mart with him.

A suspect entered the vehicle while the victim was inside the store and drove off Director Ambrose said.

When the suspect noticed that a 10-year-old boy was inside the carjacked vehicle, he allegedly pulled up to the Camden Street Elementary School and dropped the child off unharmed before speeding away in the car.

While police are actively searching for this suspect, they seek the public’s assistance in quickly locating and removing him from city streets.

This investigation is continuing.
