A crime scene was established in the area of Frank E. Rogers Boulevard and Sussex Street after an early Thursday morning pursuit turned into a crash in Harrison.
Police in Newark began following a vehicle at around 2 a.m. that was wanted for suspicious activities in the city when the vehicle refused to stop and began traveling at a high rate of speed through the city.
The fleeing vehicle entered the city of Harrison where the car slammed into a utility pole just outside of some residential homes near the Quick Check strip mall.
Several suspects bailed from the vehicle and attempted to flee when authorities apprehended at least two of them a short distance away.
A search of the vehicle had cops confiscate a weapon and other items that suggest that the pair may have been involved in a recent rash of armed robberies in the city.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
A request for information sent to the Harrison Police Department went unanswered.
