One man in a stolen pickup was killed after a violent crash that involved a police pursuit in Hillside.
A blue 2009 GMC Sierra pickup truck driving at a high rate of speed refusing to stop for police for traffic violations on Rt. 22 west sometime 12:30 a.m.
The truck ensued a chase onto Rt. 78 where it eventually made it's way off of the highway into the area of Winans Ave. and Fabyan Place where the vehicle violently crashed into an embankment ejecting one of the suspects from the vehicle.
He was then transported to University Hospital in Newark where he immediately underwent surgery but was later pronounced dead, police said.
The passenger in the truck, was identified as Tiereka Barr, 26, of Trenton, was not injured. Barr was arrested for receiving stolen property and is being held on a warrant from Doylestown, Pennsylvania.
The driver's identity is being withheld until next of kin notification is notified.
This incident is still under investigation.
