Police Make Arrest in Clifton Shooting

Police announced the arrest of a Passaic male wanted in connection with Saturday's shooting.

According to police, officers responded to the area of Lake and Van Winkle Avenue Wayne for a report of shots fired sometime around 10:40 a.m. Saturday.

Upon arrival, they found an 18-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

According to the victim, he and another teen arranged to meet to complete the sale of cellphones.

When the two met, the suspect allegedly entered the passenger side of the victim's vehicle and demanded money from the victim at gunpoint.

According to Clifton Det. Lt. Robert Bracken, transported the victim to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was treated and released.

The suspect - later identified Darren Watkins Jr., 18, of Passaic - arrested and charged with aggravated assault, robbery, possession of firearm for an unlawful purpose, possession of a handgun, and possession of hollow point ammunition. He was held on $500,000 full bail.

The weapon - a 9 mm Taurus - was recovered later that evening, police added.
