Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards Bureau is investigating an incident in which an off-duty Essex County Corrections Officer discharged his weapon in the 300 block of Myrtle Avenue in Irvington at approximately 2:30 a.m. today..
Authorities said during this incident, one individual was struck, sustaining non-life threatening injuries.
The individual is presently being treated at a local area hospital and is in stable condition.
As per Attorney General Guidelines, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standard Bureau must respond and investigate when a law enforcement officer discharges a weapon on or off-duty.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
