Police Investigating Shot Fired Incident Near Jesse Allen Park in Newark

Newark Police are searching for a suspect involved in a shots-fired incident that occurred early Monday morning in the city’s Central Ward.

The incident took place just after midnight near 137 Barclay Street, in the vicinity of Jesse Allen Park.

 Authorities were alerted when a ShotSpotter device detected gunfire in the area, prompting an immediate police response.

Upon arrival, officers discovered shell casings at the scene and quickly secured the area with police tape to begin a formal investigation. 

The Newark Shooting Response Team was called in to assist.

No arrests have been made as of Monday morning, and the motive for the shooting remains unclear.

 The suspect reportedly fled the scene before police arrived.
