An apparent robbery attempt Tuesday afternoon left a Toms River man shot and police investigating.
Police responded to the parking lot of Winteringham Village on Route 166 in Toms River shortly after 3 p.m. on Tuesday for several reports of a possible shooting at the apartment complex.
Arriving officers accessed the area but found no evidence or suspects.
Shortly after, police were advised that a 19-year-old Toms River man arrived to the Community Medical Center suffering from a single gunshot wound to the shoulder.
The victim told police he was in the parking lot when a man brandishing a handgun approached him and fired a single shot in an apparent robbery attempt.
The armed man was last seen fleeing the scene on foot, according to police.
The victim who arrived at the Community Medical Center was later transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune in stable condition.
