POLICE INVESTIGATE SOMERVILLE CREDIT UNION BANK ROBBERY

Somerset County Prosecutor's Office and Chief of Police Dennis Manning, announce that detectives are investigating Friday morning’s armed robbery of a Federal Credit Union located on West High Street, Somerville.

Prosecutor Soriano states that at approximately 9:35 a.m. Somerville Police responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting an armed robbery at the County Educator’s Federal Credit Union. Responding officers were informed by bank employees that two unknown male subjects entered the credit union and one of the suspects pointed a firearm at one of the tellers. 

Both subjects were wearing dark clothing, ski masks and gloves. After taking an undisclosed amount of money they exited the credit union via the front door and fled from the area in an unknown direction. There were no customers in the lobby and none of the bank employees were injured.

Police Officers from Bridgewater Township, Raritan Borough, along with the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit responded to the scene to assist in the search of the suspects. Detectives from the Somerville Police Department, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes and Crime Scene Investigations and Forensics Units, and federal agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Franklin Field Office responded to initiate the investigation.

Nearby Somerville Schools were put in a “shelter-in-place” mode, which was subsequently lifted by law enforcement authorities.
