Police Investigate Shooting With Property Damage in Newark’s North Ward

Police in Newark are investigating a shooting incident in the city’s North Ward Saturday night. 

At approximately 10:40 p.m., gunfire erupted in the area of 33 Mount Prospect Avenue sending officers to the scene to investigate. 

Upon arrival, police found multiple shell casings and an unoccupied car struck by bullets. 

After cops canvassed the neighborhood, no victims were reported. 

The city has experienced a surge in shootings in the last 5-7 days with gunfire erioying in several wards. At least two of the shootings resulted in fatalities. 

One mass casualty shooting, where four or more victims was struck by gunfire, was confirmed by The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office on May 7 in the 400 block of Orange Street. 

In this incident, a gunman fired over a dozen rounds of bullets at individuals striking four with one succumbing to his injuries. 

None of the incidents appear connected and all are being investigated by Newark and Essex County authorities.
