Newark authorities are investigating a Saturday night shooting incident in the city’s East Ward after gunfire was detected by a ShotSpotter device in the Ironbound section.
According to officials, the alert was triggered around 50 Lexington Street, prompting officers to respond to the area.

Upon arrival, police recovered several shell casings at the scene, indicating shots had been fired.
Despite a thorough search of the neighborhood, no victims were located, and no injuries were reported.
Newark’s Shooting Response Team was activated and is now leading the investigation, which remains active and ongoing.
At this time, no suspects have been identified or arrested.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as they work to piece together what led to the gunfire in the usually quiet residential area.
