The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred this evening in the parking lot of a ShopRite in Newark’s Central Ward.
According to preliminary information, police responded to the scene just before 6:50 p.m. after receiving reports of an injured individual.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim suffering from stab wounds. The parking lot was immediately taped off as part of the investigation.
The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities believe a dark-colored vehicle with a single male occupant is connected to the violent incident. However, no arrests have been made, and the suspect remains at large.
The ShopRite was temporarily closed as police conducted their investigation.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that the incident remains under active and ongoing investigation.
